Martijn Veldhoen
Martijn Veldhoen studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Veldhoen works as a video artist and filmmaker and has realized a number of monumental art commissions with a multimedia character. The projects he has worked on in recent years can be interpreted as video installations, but also as experimental short films and documentaries.
His films have received various international awards. He was nominated twice for a Golden Calf and for an IFFR award for his film Time and Place, a conversation with my mother. In 2025, his film Artemis won three awards and was nominated five times, including at the International Wildlife Film Festival Rotterdam and the NYC Independent Film Festival.
Veldhoen is currently working on a film installation based on a quote by Albert Camus: ‘Life is absurd, but you should embrace it anyway’. Three large screens show images of ten cities in The Global North, with New York as the westernmost city and Bucharest as the easternmost. The installation provides an intense picture of urban life and shows various political, everyday, and cultural events without commentary or judgment.
