FACES-FACES-FACES
Since about 2017, Annie Schoterman has been painting a kind of “diary”-like notes as an “in-between”. They were soon named 'FACES' following her expo in Rome, as a response to Facebook's mugging platform. These 'portraits' are the representations of her state of mind and events, the 'reality' of everyday life. She calls these: Scouring the mind. This resulting “rag” now covers hundreds of sheets.
Is this found shape a “head,” a key shape, a hole, a lens, an oculus, or a drain? Either way, within this 'head-shape' it must be done. This (safe) boundary also gives many freedoms: you don't have to choose, and 'skirmishes' take place at this boundary, going over it or not....
It has since become a motley procession, an imprint of her inner world of images, texts, experiences, in short, the “delusion” of everyday life.
