In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who do not.”

By Blaise Pascal

The Artwork Observable Conditions represents one of my core beliefs: a painting needs contrast to create drama or visual tension, which translates into a narrative.
The combination of an accentuated black background and minimal color emphasis gives this belief great weight; therefore, I developed a technique that puts the theoretical method into practice almost literally.

The technique is a hybrid of drypoint etching and brushwork on a controlled surface of charcoal dust, thinned with turpentine.
Charcoal and acrylic paint are used as materials to create the contrasting narrative according to the basic principle: light and dark, knowledge versus ignorance, good versus evil.

The color element exists within a black-and-white environment, where perceived autonomy depends solely on its surroundings.
Once this framework is understood, the final step follows: the spiritual, where universal interpretation comes into play.

Kirilla Mihai born in Romania in 1990 and living in the Netherlands for more than eleven years, the artist is a muralist and painter based in Zaandam.

The work encompasses a wide range of subjects, themes, and styles. This versatility stems from the high degree of diversity required to work as a muralist, an experience that has developed over the years and continues to evolve. The artist continues to actively explore new forms, narratives, and visual approaches.

Working on both large murals and canvas, the artist explores visual narrative forms in which color, composition and context are central.
